Junior Melvin Moreno equalled his career-high of 22 points for the second game in a row. He powered Greater Lawrence to a 65-51 win over Shawsheen.

Methuen High finished up its regular season by holding off a resilient Greater Lawrence Tech bunch, 71-66. Raudy Minaya paced the Rangers in a battle of two of the region's top scorers.

If only the start matched the finish.

Challenged by the absence of crucial players, Greater Lawrence struggled out of the gate. Now a fully functioning unit gaining experience working together, the Reggies are finally showing the Commonwealth Conference their high level of talent.

Methuen held on for a 56-54 victory against Greater Lawrence, which stormed back after being down by 12 points entering the fourth quarter. Donald Celestin poured in 15 in the fourth to help the the Reggies tie the game. But Methuen's Cal Carroll hit two free throws to give his team the lead. Greater Lawrence took one final shot but it fell no good.

 HAVERHILL — In one of the highest scoring games in the region in area history, Whittier held off Greater Lawrence 92-81.

"It was just up and down. Everybody is so athletic. It was a lot of fun to watch,'' said a hoarse Whittier coach Tom Sipsey.

After losing by 49 points the first time the two teams met, Greater Lawrence aggresively closed the gap but couldn't overcome an athletic Lynn Tech squad, dropping a 79-71 decision.

Junior Melvin Moreno continued his hot shooting with a season-high 14 points including four 3-pointers as Greater Lawrence dumped Northeast 66-46. This was his third double-figure game in his last four outings. Donald Celestin led all scorers with 27 points. Freshman Xavier Torries came off the bench with 11 points and Oscar Gutierrez also shined off the bench. The Reggies outscored Northeast 23-4 in the third quarter to assume control of the game.

Sophomore Joey Rivera erupted for a career-high 20 points in Greater Lawrence's 68-49 win over Minuteman. The Reggies broke open a 1-point game in the fourth quarter as Francicso Reyes took over. He finished with 13 rebounds. Donald Celestin contributed 18 points and 7 assists.

LAWRENCE — Pinkerton trailed much of the way but outscored Greater Lawrence 17-6 in the final quarter to capture the seventh-place game 60-51.

Sophomore forward Chris Light scored all eight of his points in the fourth while big men Zach Mathieu (19), Ben Proulx (12) and Alex Patrikis (12) combined for 43 points.

LAWRENCE — Raudy Minaya scored 20 points and Kyle Mansour added 14 as Methuen shaded Greater Lawrence, 59-57, in a Greater Lawrence Christmas Tourney consolation game.

The Reggies' Donald Celestin erupted for 32 points and Joey Rivera backed him with 12 on four second-half 3-pointers.
