The Methuen-Haverhill match, which had been suspended due to rain from May 8, was deadlocked at 2-2. It all came down to a 2-hour marathon at No. 2 doubles. Methuen's Alex Le and Mike Wakim pulled it out in three sets and the Rangers prevailed 3-2.

Lawrence, which was 1-16 last spring, improved to 7-7 with a 4-1 win over Billerica. Hector Reynoso and Steven Gray had a big win at first doubles and Alex Cruz rolled at third singles.

The second doubles team of Jose Matos and Hector Reynoso regrouped in the second set, using aggressive net play and hustle to take a three-set victory, the deciding point for Lawrence in a 3-2 win over Haverhill.

Freshman Jessie Taveras improved to 5-2 with a win at third singles for the Greater Lawrence co-ed tennis team, which lost to Shawsheen 4-3.

Pentucket lost its first two boys tennis matches then saw its second doubles team fall behind 3-0 in the third and deciding set. Both times the Sachems rebounded as Logan Sherwood and Will Kopaciewicz fought back for a 6-4 final-set victory to knock off Newburyport, 3-2.

Andover freshman Owen Plourde battled Lawrence standout Chen Chen for well over two hours before rallying back for a brutal 2-6, 7-5, 12-10 win at No. 1 singles to help the Golden Warriors best the Lancers 5-0.

Eduardo Cartagena and Alex Cruz rallied back for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, the final event of the day, to give Lawrence a 3-2 victory over Malden.

Moving from doubles play to singles, Sam Rowe and Sam Mack turned in quality efforts as part of Andover's 5-0 tennis shutout of Lowell.

It came down to No. 2 doubles and Will LeRette and Nick Dobrosielski prevailed 7-6, 6-3 to lead Cental Catholic 3-2 over Methuen in boys tennis. 

With the meet coming down to the last match of the day, Lawrence's Chen Chen outlasted Methuen's Luis Martinez in a two-hour 7-6, 6-4 victory to give the Lancers a 3-2 win.
