There have been six meets scheduled but Tuesday was the first day of actual skiing in the North Shore Ski League. North Andover downed Masco, 91-44, led by Caleb Lister and Segev Moritz.

Astros impress on slopes

The Pinkerton girls ski team took third and Astros boys took fourth in a multi-team meet against Keene, Goffstown, Merrimack and Bishop Guertin.

Chris Bennett led Pinkerton, placing third overall. Ava Sozgin led the girls in fifth, while Katelyn Bennett was sixth.

Denoncourt takes 2nd


Andover's Jason Denoncourt placed second in the state slalom race at Wachusett Mountain, finishing in 34.38, just behind Jack Donaldson of Bromfield. Denoncourt, who was the overall winner last year, had equipment problems and finished back in the pack. Marblehead won the team title by edging out St. John's Prep.

Knights finish strong

The North Andover boys ski team finished the regular season with wins over Masconomet and Austin Prep to finish 10-2 and in second place in the North Shore League. Alex Martel won the race for the Knights with a time of 22.27. Martel finished fifth in the overall league rankings, qualifying him for states along with the top-11 skiiers in the league. Andover's Jason Denoncourt won the league with 145 points.

NA's Big 4

North Andover blitzed Andover, 100-35. Andover's Jason Denoncourt was the overall slalom winner among the seven schools while the Knights were led by Alex Martel (4th overall), Zach Wolmering (5th), Ben Ramos (13th) and Segev Moritz (15th).

Pinkerton takes second

Led by a third overall from Kenny McCarthy, Pinkerton boys skiing took second in a seven-team meet with 376 points. Timberlane was third with 364 points.

Andover's Jason Denoncourt took first overall in 24.01, more than a second ahead of No. 2, in Thursday's North Shore Ski League meet. Alex Martel led North Andover, placing sixth overall (25.48).

Denoncourt Does It! Andover great sweeps state titles

CHARLEMONT — As a skiing purist, Jerry Marchegiani was floored by the perfomance Tuesday by Jason Denoncourt.

The Andover High senior won both the slalom (36.27) and the giant slalom (37.53) at the Mass. State Meet at Berkshire East. There were about 150 competitors in both events, which were pushed back a week due to poor conditions.

Denoncourt is Interscholastic champ

Andover junior Jason Denoncourt beat out five St. John's Prep standouts to win the North Shore League's Interscholastic Meet. Denoncourt had quite a day at Bradford Ski Area with a combined slalol/giant slalom time of 44.31, to beat runner-up Jeff DiNitto (45.29) by nearly a full second.
The Prep easily won its 10th straight Interscholastic title with North Andover in second. Cole Masterson and Mitchell Flaherty went 7-8 overall to pace the Knights.

Astros seventh at states

Pinkerton seventh as a team at the New Hampshire Division 1 Ski Championship. Owen Sezgin placed a team-high 10th in the slalom. Kenneth McCrathy was 15th in the slalom and a team-best 22nd in the giant slalom.
