Knights clinch CAL title

North Andover's boys clinched the Cape Ann League large school division in rousing fashion with a 59-49 victory over Masconomet. Senior Nick Fay led the way for the Knights (12-0 in CAL, 14-3 overall) with 17 points and Matt Sifferlen added 12. Trailing 15-8 after the first quarter, North Andover took the lead for good with a monster 25-point second quarter.

Masconomet 65, Amesbury 44

Bill Medvitz led Amesbury (2-14) with 15 points. Stephen Deas added 10. Steve Serwon had seven points and 15 rebounds.

"We forced them to the waning seconds on the shot clock on many possessions," Amesbury coach Thom Connors said. "They didn't have a single player beat us. They had 10 players score."

Vikings edged by Chieftains

The Triton Vikings (1-14) led at halftime, 28-23, but were unable to hold on for the win as Masconomet scored the game's last five points to win, 62-58. Collin Smith led the way for Triton with 19 points and seven rebounds, and Charles Anderson did a nice job of finding teammates as he notched 11 assists and scored six points. Darren Lewis (11 points) and Tom Bashaw (7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) also played well for Triton.

North Reading 67, Masconomet 62

Darren Hartwell had 17 points to lead four players in double figures during North Reading's 67-62 win over Masconomet. The Hornets (11-1) pull into a first place tie with Georgetown, each at 7-1 in the CAL small. North Reading hit 16 of 21 from the line and sealed it with John Finch's 4 for 4 efficency from the line in the fourth quarter. Kevin Lentini (15 points) ent 7 for 9 from the stripe.
