Methuen second in Yell tourney

The Methuen High wrestlers made a nice run on Saturday to the finals of the Travis Yell Memorial Dual Meet Tournament, hosted by Whittier Tech.
The Rangers knocked off the host Wildcats, 42-35, Marblehead/Swampscott, 69-12, and Franklin Tech, 64-6, before falling in the finals, to North Kingston, R.I., 37-36.
Shane Eason led the way with four first-period pins on the day. Izaiah Santiago, Joe Bolduc and Josirus Gomez all had four wins apiece.
Along with the loss to Methuen, Whittier Tech put together a superb day, moving to 13-4 on the year.
The Wildcats KO'd Masco, 44-31, Lynnfield, 60-6, Bristol Aggie, 54-30, Brookline, 42-35, and eventual champ North Kingstown, 42-36.

Wilson, Rice shine

In swimming, the Salem girls fell to Pinkerton and beat Windham. The Salem boys fell to Windham and Pinkerton. Leading the Blue Devils were Samantha Malynowski (200 free, 2:13.03), Madison Wilson (200 free, 2:14.25), Wyatt Rice (500 free, 5:32.55) and Rudy Atkins (200 free, 2:01.94). All those were state meet cuts.

Masconomet shaded Haverhill, 50-44, in the Bishop Fenwick Tourney. All-Tourney selection Kya Burdier was tremendous in the two games, totalling 27 points, 24 rebounds and 11 assists and had 19 points vs. Masco.

Unbeaten top-seed Masconomet shaded Central Catholic, 8-7, in the Division 1 North girls lax quarterfinals. For the Raiders, Grace Cashman shined with 16 saves and Lily Angluin scored twice. It was Masco's second straight 1-goal win over an MVC team.
