DERRY | Manchester West had Pinkerton on the ropes and was set to deliver the knockout blow.
The Astros had already seen the Blue Knights punch in two quick scores, and Manchester West had a first down from the Pinkerton 4-yard line early in the second quarter.
"We knew we had to do something," said Astros linebacker Mike Crupi. "We couldn't go down by 21, especially that early in the game. That hadn't happened in a while. We needed a momentum shift."
And do something they did. After stopping two rushes for no gain and a pass for a gain of only three yards, the Astros' front line rejected a QB keeper to take possession of the ball.
That stop caused a major shift in momentum, and it was all Pinkerton from there as the Astros scored 16 unanswered points to down Manchester West 16-14.
"That stop was huge," said senior co-captain Josh Lane, who was one of the players in on the tackle. "We toughened up and had to fill the holes. We went to a four-man front, stayed low and tried to take the lineman's feet out from under them to free up the linebackers. It was a big turn."
