Clippers nearly pull off upset

The Newburyport boys soccer team nearly pulled off an upset over first-place Masconomet, leading late before allowing a goal with 10 minutes remaining for the 2-2 tie. Cam McDermott gave the Clippers the lead with a penalty kick goal early in the second half, and Harry Costello scored five minutes after Masco tied it up on an assist from Ryan Archer. The Clippers also got great defensive performances from Jack Healy and Eamon McElhinney, who shut down Masco's top offensive players.

Clippers clinch tourney berth

The Newburyport boys soccer team has clinched a postseason berth for the second straight year, punching its ticket after beating Innovation Academy 5-1 on Saturday. George Coryell and Brady O'Donnell each had two goals for the Clippers, and Andrew Moreland also scored as Newburyport improved to 7-3-4 on the year.

After missing several weeks due to injury, Newburyport's George Coryell made his presence felt by scoring the game's only goal in Newburyport's 1-0 win over North Reading. Owen Spence had the assist and Aidan Guthro recorded the shutout in goal.

With just over two minutes to play and the game still scoreless, Harry Blackmon received a corner kick from Ryan Archer and buried it to give the Newburyport boys soccer team a 1-0 win over Georgetown. Ronan Harrington also had a terrific game as the Clippers improved to 4-2-3 on the year.

Newburyport's Ronan Harrington scored with 10:04 to play in the game to help his team to a 1-0 win over North Reading. Aiden Guthro made five saves and defensemen Eamon McElinney, Jack Healey and Harry Bovee all played great on the back line.

Rivals draw

Newburyport bounced back from its tough opening day loss to tie archrival Pentucket 1-1 on Friday. Andrew Moreland scored for the Clippers early in the game on an assist from Harry Blackmon, and Pentucket answered with a goal from Jake Messier assisted by Erik Dahlgard roughly 10 minutes later.
