Pentucket's girls gained redemption for its lone regular season loss, defeating Newburyport 34-23 in the finals of the CAL Kinney tournament. Mackenzie Currie led the Sachems (11-1) with 11 points and Arielle Cleveland added 10.

North Andover's Sydney Schwalm finished first in the North Shore League races for the second straight week and teammate Jane Freund was second as the Knights won twice to improve to 4-0.

The Division 4 record in the 4x200 relay, set by a team from Hopkinton in 1999 (1:46.58), finally fell on Saturday when Pentucket's Sabrina Campbell, Emily Rubio, Sage Smith and Syeira Campbell raced to first in a meet record time of 1:46.18. The quartet helped the Sachems take third overall as a team with 40 points, trailing just Nauset (51) and Melrose (49). Elsewhere for Pentucket, Madi Krohto broke her own school record and finished second in the high jump (5-6) — followed closely by Rubio in fourth (5-4) — and Rubio also added a second in the long jump (17-2).

Senior Angelina Yacubacci tossed in 16 points and freshman Abby Dube pumped in a career-high 12 for Pentucket, which clinched its sixth straight CAL Large title.

Emily Rubio was named Athlete of the Meet as she led Pentucket to a second-place at the CAL Meet. Rubio won the long jump and took a third in the high jump. She teamed with Sabrina Campbell, Sage Smith and Syeira Campbell to win the 4x200 in a meet record 1:47.65. Other Sachem winners were Madi Krohto in the high jump and Syeira Campbell in the 300.

Junior MacKenzie Currie scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Pentucket girls over Newburyport 38-30. The Sachems (10-1) are missing Arielle Cleveland, who is out with an ankle injury, and Megan Reading, who is lost for the season with a knee injury.

NEWBURYPORT — Newburyport put on the pressure Saturday afternoon, but Tyler Correnti was up to the challenge.

The Pentucket sophomore made several spectacular saves among his six stops and Matt Tineo scored on a beautiful 30-footer in the second half as the Sachems prevailed in the annual ALS Cup game, 1-0.

Pentucket sophomore Phoebe Rubio took top honors with a fine time of 18:47 on the 2.94-mile Maudslay Park course and the Sachems took three of the top five places but they couldn't keep pace with Newburyport's depth and dropped its first meet of the season, 29-30. The Newburyport boys also handed Pentucket its first loss as well.

Led by Leyla Kvaternik, the North Andover girls came in fifth at the Frank Kelley Invitational. Kvaternik, who was the top sophomore, in the race, was sixth in 19:57.55 on Wrentham's 5K course with teammate Abby Mastromonaco taking 12th. The Knights were just 19 points out of second place despite missing Courtney Dalke, who was at a band concert.

The Newburyport girls volleyball team edged out Ipswich in a thrilling, back-and-forth match on Friday night, winning 3-2 after narrowly taking the decisive fifth-set. Sydney Yim led the Clippers with nine kills and Abigail Gillingham had seven blocks as Newburyport lost the first set 25-23, won the next two 25-19 and 25-21, and lost the fourth set 25-23 before winning the winner-take-all fifth 15-13. Newburyport is now 1-1 to start the year and is at Triton on Tuesday.
