Newburyport Clippers Boys Cross Country '18

Historic time

Newburyport's Sam Acquaviva made history on Wednesday, running the second fastest time ever at Maudslay State Park since Newburyport cross country first began using the course in 1987. Acquaviva completed the 2.97-mile course in 15:07, finishing first to lead the Clippers to a 20-41 win over Manchester Essex. John Lucey finished second (15:54) and Dreese Fadil placed fourth (16:17) as Newburyport improved to 9-0 on the season.

Acquaviva takes second

Racing in one of the strongest fields in the state, Newburyport's Sam Acquaviva took second overall in the Bay State Invitational's Peter Conway race, running the 5K course in 16:09.54. He finished shortly behind Arlington star Ryan Oosting, and teammate John Lucey also placed 12th overall in 16:57.44. The Pentucket boys competed in the Scott Burdick race, placing fifth overall. Peter Lopata finished seventh overall in 16:46.90.

Clippers race ahead

Newburyport boys and girls cross country swept Lynnfield, each improving to 7-0 on the year. The boys won 20-41, with Sam Acquaviva and John Lucey finishing together in first and second, and the girls won 15-49, sweeping the first six places with Ellie Schulson taking first overall.

Knights lead at Relays

 

North Andover was the top local relay finisher for both the boys and girls in Saturday's Clipper Relays, taking an 11th in each race.

For the boys, Jack Bicksler, Kevin Wong and Tommy Faucher combined for a 31:10 for the six miles (2 miles each) while Abby Mastromonaco, Courtney Dalke and Lauren O'Connell were timed in 38:38.
