Good tuneup

 

Pentucket ended the regular season on a high note with a 4-1 victory over Newburyport. Carley Desjardins pitched one of her best games of the season for the Sachems (11-90 and Tyler Feeney remained hit at the plate with two hits and two RBIs.

Sachems qualify

 

Pentucket's softball team scored seven runs in the fifth and then held on for a 10-9 upset of North Reading, qualifying the Sachems (10-8) for the tournament for the first time in three years. Tyler Feeney continued her hot hitting, going 4 for 4, scoring three runs and driving in two, and Maddie Binding was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Freshman Cassidy Gaeta was 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Hornets (15-4).

Promising freshman Cassidy Gaeta and winning pitcher Kendra Butner both had home runs as North Reading, also taking advantage of 10 walks and several errors, outlasted Pentucket 11-8. Gaeta had four RBIs, one more than Tarah Reilly for the Hornets (11-1).

Tyler Feeney remained hot, going 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs as Pentucket ripped Saugus 10-2 for its third straight win. Feeney is 8 for 13 on the year. Sophomores Maddie Binding and Sarah Stewart started their first game and combined for five hits.

Maddy Ammon drove in the game-winning run with a two-run single in the ninth inning as Pentucket softball won 9-8 over Triton in extra innings.

The Sachems scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 8-8.
