Trailing by a run heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Pentucket exploded for eight runs sparked by an RBI triple for Tyler Feeney as the Sachems made new head coach John Walsh a winner in his debut contest, 11-3 over Pentucket.
"The girls were down and they battled back in an impressive fashion," said Walsh. "We did some very good things today in our first game."
The Sachems scored single runs in the second and third, then the Hillies rallied for three runs to take a 3-2 advantage.
But Kassidy Kennefick kicked off the rally for the Green and White with a double and scored on Feeney's triple. Nikki O’Rourke then singled her home, opening the floodgates for the eight-run fifth.
"They scored a bunch of runs and that is a good sign for our offense," said Walsh.
Kennefick and O'Rourke (two RBIs) led the Sachems' 12-hit attack with three hits each while Tyler Feeney had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice and Sydney Snow had two more hits.
Carley Desjardins went the distance for Pentucket, striking out three.
"She just kept getting better as the game went on," said Walsh.
Brett Johnson led Haverhill with three hits including a home run.
