Daryl Powell gave a hallmark performance. The Beverly junior captain and defensive center midfielder assisted on both of her team's goals, giving the Panthers' girls soccer team a 2-1 tournament triumph over their arch rivals from Salem at Bertram Field.

Sophomore Bridget Leahy may not have big numbers (4 goals, 3 assists), but has been an impact player and one of the NEC's top sophomores, Beverly coach Kristin Macdonald said.

Bridget is the daughter of Beverly boys coach Kevin Leahy. The relationship is obvious in Bridget's all-around skills.

Sophomore striker Emma Crowley scored on a second half breakaway, toe-poking it into the corner for the game's only goal in a 1-0 triumph over Beverly.

Jenna Mizner assisted on the play, while goalkeeper Silvie Cohen recorded her second shutout. Midfielder Sarah Forward also played well for the Magicians (3-3-2).

BEVERLY | There was a sense of urgency for the Danvers High girls soccer team to get back on track after suffering its first loss this past weekend.

Before yesterday's game with Beverly, Falcons' head coach Jimmy Hinchion talked to his players about regaining their focus and finding a way back into the win column. His words worked wonders as the visitors scored once in each half to knock off the Panthers, 2-0.

Beverly lost a heartbreaker 1-0 to Winthrop as the Vikings scored with two minutes left. Sisters Mary and Alyssa Accomando played well at stopper and center midfield respectively for the Panthers (4-2).

Erika Digiacomo recorded a hat trick and added an assist, while Alyssa Manoogian scored and assisted on all three Digiacomo goals, and Peabody beat Beverly 4-0. Amy Perkins made five saves to earn the clean sheet, while Haley Lorge made five saves in the loss.
