Sanborn finally beats Campbell, earns Class M title berth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — When Sanborn’s strong senior class joined the squad three and four years ago, the team became instant championship contenders.

However, there was one roadblock to statewide glory — Campbell High. The Cougars relentlessly broke the Indians’ hearts, sweeping a pair of one-run decisions this year while winning 5 of the past 7 matchups including last year’s Class M semifinal game.

Sanborn back in semis

 

Sanborn now has exactly what it wants — a rematch in the Class M semifinals against Campbell.

The Indians (17-2), who fell to Campbell in last year's semis and suffered two close losses to Campbell during the regular season, advanced with a solid 5-0 win over Farmington. Stacie Blades threw a two-hitter for the win and veteran seniors Morgan Farmer (2 for 3), Cara Carter and Krissi Romano (2 for 3) all had RBIs. Leadoff batter Nicole Foster had two hits and scored twice.

Sanborn seniors Morgan Farmer and Cara Carter both hit two home runs as the Indians opened the Class M tournament with an 11-1 rout of Fall Mountain. Farmer, who has 13 career home runs, also tripled and drove in seven runs while Carter drove in three runs.

No-hitter tuneup

 

Stacie Blades and the Sanborn softball team tuned up for the Class M tournament with a resounding 12-0 win over Mascenic in their regular-season finale. Blades through a no-hitter and helped her own cause with two hits and three RBIs. Morgan Farmer added two hits and two RBIs for the Indians (15-2), who will likely claim the No. 3 seed.

Sanborn senior Morgan Farmer capped a dramatic rally with a three-run homer over the fence to provide the winning run in a 10-9 win over Franklin, handing the visitors their first loss. The heart of the lineup for the Indians (10-1) — Farmer, Cara Carter and Krissy Romano — had seven hits and seven RBIs.
