Sanborn off track in tourney opener

The two-week layoff did nothing to sharpen Sanborn's skills.

On the contrary, the No. 5-seed Indians (15-5) suffered a sub-par performance in the Class M first round yesterday and fell to No. 12-seed White Mountains 5-0, marking the first time in six years Sanborn has not survived the first round.

Smith, Sanborn cruise

Sanborn topped Epping 4-1. Danika Smith's three-run triple in the bottom of the first helped propel the Indians to the win. Stacie Blades picked up the win and sister Kayle Blades drove in a run.

Sanborn Regional coach Bob Ficker walked over to the water cooler midway through the fourth quarter, patted his star guard on the back for his efforts and told him, "Good job." The lectures about taking a dumb foul to foul out of the game could wait until the ride home. Or even over a snack at the dinner table.

KINGSTON, N.H. | The Sanborn Regional High boys played a half like a team hungry to earn a Class M playoff spot.

No. 11 White Mountains stuns No. 2 Sanborn

Despite being outshot 20-6, No. 11 White Mountains stunned No. 2 Sanborn, 2-0, in the Class M quarterfinals. It was the second straight year the Indians were upset in the quarters. "We outplayed them," said Indians coach Al Magnusson. "It was phenomenal how many shots we had. It was unfortunate."

Sanborn cruises in tourney opener

Sanborn advanced last night to the quarterfinals of the New Hampshire Class M tournament with a 3-1 win over Littleton. The Indians will play Friday against White Mountain. Rob Palumbo scored two and Logan Moore chipped in one to lead Sanborn. Jeff DiManna had a good game on defense along with Josh DiBurro, and Mike Delano had a superb game on the offensive side.

Sanborn makes statement

Sanborn reached its highlight of the season by defeating the defending state champions and second place Hopkinton in a 1-0 overtime victory. Two minutes into overtime, Steve Palumbo assisted twin Rob in the only goal of the game, which led to Hopkinton's first loss on the year. Goalie Nick Fogarty reported his fifth shutout of the season. This win puts the Indians in fourth place in the Class M Division of the state with a record of 10-2-0.

Al Magnusson calls it "telepathic" and it's safe to say the rest of Sanborn's foes may just call it a major pain in the neck.

What is it? It's the unspoken communication that comes when two of the best scoring threats in the area not only share the same team jersey for three years, but the same address for a lifetime.

Sanborn beats Hinsdale

Sanborn downed Hinsdale 6-1 behind two goals and an assist from junior forward Erin Gianino. The Indians (5-6) also received two assists from Rebecca Twiss. Goaltenders Hannah Sawyer and Ali Laliberte combined for three saves.

Sanborn shuts out Hillsboro

Rob Palumbo picked up his 11th and 12th goals and his brother, Steve, added a third as Sanborn put a complete 80 minutes together in a 3-0 win over Hillsboro at home. Nick Fogarty turned back seven shots to pick up the shutout.

Giconda and Morgenstern power Sanborn win

Jessica Giconda and Kara Morgenstern scored for Sanborn as the Indians downed Prospect Mountain 2-1. Heather Zukas made 10 saves to earn the win for Sanborn, which improved to 3-3-2.

Marianna Brown scored a pair of goals, but Sanborn fell to Derryfield 4-3.

Sanborn crushes Somersworth

Sanborn had four players score two goals each in a 9-0 win over Somersworth. Rachele Ferrandi, Nicole Gianakakis, Megan Nedeau and Cara Carter all scored twice for the Indians (1-2-1).

Sanborn falls to Hopkinton

Hopkinton beat Sanborn 4-0. Sanborn (1-1) kept it close, trailing 1-0 at the half before Hopkinton pulled away.
