Gomez-Martinez leads Andover to semis

ANDOVER — Natalie Gomez-Martinez did almost everything in a Division 1 North quarterfinal contest against Masconomet yesterday. 

She scored 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, poured in 3 of 5 3-pointers, had five assists, four steals and she even retrieved the ball when it got stuck between the rim and the backboard on a 3-point attempt by teammate Devon Caveney.

Hard day's Knight

Katie Maroney netted a career-best 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds and seven steals and North Andover downed archrival Masconomet 52-43. The Knights improved to 12-6, a crucial win against the Chieftains (13-7).

OT hoops downs Hornets

Despite the best efforts of senior Lauren Pawlowski, who scored 11 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, North Reading succumbed to a 3-pointer with eight seconds left, falling to Masconomet, 55-52. Pawlowski hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation to create the extra session. Kirsten Morrison led the Hornets with 14 points.

Perfect Pentucket

Erin McNamara and Ashley Viselli combined for 28 points to lead 12-0 Pentucket to a 50-28 victory over Masconomet. The two seniors are having strong seasons as Viselli was averaging 18.0 points per game entering yesterday and McNamara was averaging 13.9.

Lumb leads young Knights

North Andover outlasted Masconomet, 46-41, in overtime.  Amanda Foote, Julia Titone, Katie Moroney and Nikki Karalis combined to hit 7-of-8 from the free throw line during the extra session.  Freshman Morgan Lumb buried a trio of 3-pointers on her way to a game-best 15 points. North Andover is now 2-0.
