The fall 2007 season was the year of the keeper in the CAL as three goalies made the All-League team. Up in Newburyport, the Clippers had one of the best.

Nick Allman was voted the ninth best player in the CAL as the Clippers goalie, only CAL Large player of the year and Wilmington goalie Vinny Papageorgiou, had a higher ranking as a keeper.

Pentucket stays alive in bid for postseason

The Sachems (6-7-4) extended their winning streak to four games | all of which were absolutely necessary to keep the squad from falling out of contention for a state tournament berth. Brian Cormier and Evan Miller scored Pentucket's goals. Jamie Costello had an assist. Sachems coach Christian Langlois credited Jack Kern for his defensive play.

Georgetown holds off Newburyport

Winless Newburyport threw a scare into unbeaten Georgetown, but the Royals earned the 1-0 win on a goal by Bryant Yavorski 35 minutes into the game. Chris Pinto was outstanding on defense for the winners while Royals coach Ron Comeau said Evan Weagle "was spectacular in net."

Amesbury wins first game in three years

It had been three years and four days since the Amesbury soccer team last won a match when it snapped a 54-match winless streak against Newburyport Monday night. The Indians suffered through an 0-47-7 record during the winless stretch | not to mention countless ribbing from their Amesbury High peers.

Soccer rivalry takes on new life in ALS Cup

NEWBURYPORT | If ever there was a question regarding the intensity of the Newburyport-Pentucket soccer rivalry, it was answered in the closing minutes of last night's sixth annual ALS Cup.

Few in attendance had to check the scoreboard to confirm Pentucket's 2-0 victory in the boys' nightcap. As the referees sounded the final whistle, the Pentucket bench emptied thanks to a herd of sprinting players destined for the celebratory pile of athletes at midfield.

Key players: Tom Svirsky, jr.; Adam Lee, sr.; Evan Stockwell, sr.; Tyler Stotz, jr.; Thayer Adsit, jr.; Paul Cedron, jr.; Nick Alman, sr.; Ethan Manchuriat, sr. Strengths: In the midfield with returning starters Stotz, Adsit, and Cedron all back. The Clippers also have a great goal scoring threat in Tom Svirsky, who was among the leading scorers in the area last fall. However, the number one strength for Newburyport will be in goal tending where Nick Alman returns from North Carolina and established goalie Ethan Manchuriat should form a terrific tandem.
