Knights convincingly clinch CAL

North Andover clinched the Cape Ann League title and avenged an early-season loss to Masconomet after rolling to an easy 8-2 victory over the third-place Chieftains. Alex Blane (two goals, one assist) and Rob Morandi (goal, assist) led the way offensively, and Brien O'Connor turned aside 10 shots in a strong effort.

Andover playoff bound

Andover pitched a second-half shutout, leading to a 12-4 victory over Masconomet and a berth in the stste tournament. Gavin McIver was a consistent winner of faceoffs and did well on offensive transition. The Golden Warrior defense (Jimmy Johnson, Matt Murray, Vinny Christiano and Andrew Carroll) was exemplary in front of goaltender Jake Gostanian (seven saves).

Caleb Woodworth scored two goals for Triton (3-6). Craig White and Nick DeFrancesco also scored a goal each. Bert Comins played well on defense. Carson True made 11 saves.

Red-hot frosh, Hillies

Freshman Nathaniel Vazquez enjoyed his best game of the season with five goals as the red-hot Haverhill boys lacrosse team improved to 5-1 with a 10-6 win at Masconomet. Joe Natale added three goals and goalie Parker LaMarre, who had 16 saves, "was just fantastic" according to coach Bryan Brazill.

Masconomet 17, Newburyport 2

The Newburyport Clippers (0-3) were outplayed by the Masconomet Chieftains yesterday, 17-2. The score at the half was 10-1. Sophomore Andrew Sokol scored the two Clipper goals, and goalie Dean Cataldo played well with 15 saves.
