Perry to coach NH hoop team

Salem coach E.J. Perry has been named as an assistant for the 2009 boys New Hampshire Twin -tate Basketball Classic team as an assistant to Sean Young of Wilton-Lyndeborough High School. Also, Perry will move to the head coach position for 2010. Young as yet to name his second assistant.   New Hampshire selects its team in March from 2009 graduates, will practice in late June and will take on Vermont at the University of Vermont in Burlington on July 11.

Fabulous freshman

Freshman Julia Titone had the game of her young career, scoring four points and grabbing seven rebounds as North Andover crusied to an easy 61-39 victory over Chelmsford. 1,000-point scorer Nicole Zahoruiko had another double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, and Hillary Fonseca played shut-down defense in addition to dishing out two assists.

Both Luz Brenz (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Yulissa Nunez (15 points, 12 rebounds) recorded double doubles to help lead Lawrence past Chelmsford, 55-47. Nunez hit a pair of treys. Kelly Sicard racked up 8 points.

Garvey's all-around game

The Haverhill girls basketball team fell to 0-7 yesterday after falling 58-36 to Chelmsford, but senior forward Colleen Garvey had a nice all-around game in the losing effort. Garvey tied for the team-high in points (eight) with junior Elizabeth Strong, and she also added 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks. Hannah Davis, who had six points, also added seven boards.
