No local athlete hotter than Andover's Kyle Berthiaume. The sophomore goalie notched his third shutout in four games to give the Golden Warriors a 2-0 win over Acton-Boxboro. In his last five starts, he has surrendered just two goals.

Andover goalie Kyle Berthiaume did it again for  the Andover hockey team. Two days after holding unbeaten Central Catholic to a 1-1 tie, he made 32 saves as the Warriors blanked a solid Wakefield team, 1-0. Paul Russell scored for the Warriors.

LAWRENCE — If there were any lingering questions whether first-year varsity goalies Cam Keller of Central Catholic and Kyle Berthiaume of Andover were ready for the bigtime, they were answered yesterday afternoon.

Cam Smith stepped up huge as he racked up a season-high four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in Andover's 6-3 win over Chelmsford. Riki Retelle, Paul Russell, Dan Colombo and Matt Eriksen had a goal and an assist apiece, and George Flanagan added a pair of helpers. Kyle Berthiaume nabbed 35 saves as the Warriors improved to 10-3-1.

LAWRENCE — After two periods, Andover had already fired 28 shots on net without a goal to show for it. But Riki Retelle and Paul Russell would not be blanked.

“I was in front of the net like I had been the whole game,” said Russell. “I was trying to screen the goalie and I saw the shot and a loose puck and put it home. It was pretty exciting.”

George Flanagan notched his 16th goal of the season just over five minutes into the third to give Andover a 1-0 win over Billerica. He has scored at least one goal in eight of the last nine games. 

LAWRENCE — Without practice Sunday, Andover was force to sit for 24 hours and think about its one-goal loss to archrival Central Catholic the previous day. So when the Golden Warriors hit the ice yesterday, they were ready take out their frustration.
