Vikings win second straight

The Triton volleyball team won its second straight, beating Newburyport 3-0 on Monday. Coming off a thrilling five-set win at Georgetown, the Vikings didn't need another comeback, sweeping the match 25-12, 25-23, 25-23. Evelyn Pearson led the team in aces (5) and tied with Maggie Bowen for the lead in digs (5), Colleen McCarthy had a team-high eight kills and Caitie Rooney had 10 assists.

Five-set thriler

Newburyport girls volleyball rallied back in the fourth and fifth sets to pick up an exciting 3-2 win over Wilmington on Friday night. The Clippers won the opening set 26-24, lost the second 25-23 and the third 25-22 before winning the fourth 25-16 and the decisive fifth-set tiebreaker 15-8. Jillian Stallard led the Clippers with seven kills, Jess Rosseau had six blocks, Sydney Yim had 10 assists and Abigail Gillingham had three aces.

Clipper comeback

Trailing two sets to none, the Newburyport girls volleyball team rallied for three straight wins to pick up a thrilling 3-2 win over Georgetown-Pentucket. The Clippers started by taking the third set 25-21, pulled away in the fourth to win 25-17 and then took the decisive fifth-set tiebreaker 15-10. Sydney Yim led the Clippers with 12 kills and Julianne Heath had 11 assists.

Triton tops Port

The Triton girls volleyball team picked up its second win of the season, beating rival Newburyport 3-1. The Vikings won the first set 25-20, lost the second set 28-26 and then won the next two sets 25-22 and 25-17. Evelyn Pearson led the Vikings in kills and digs with nine each, and Catie Rooney recorded 20 assists.

First win of the year

The Newburyport volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, beating Georgetown-Pentucket 3-1. The Clippers bounced back from a 20-25 loss in the first set to win the following three sets 25-13, 25-9 and 25-18. Sydney Yim (18 aces) and Julianne Heath (11 aces) led the way for Newburyport, while Kalyn Markuns led Georgetown with 10 assists.

Down to the wire

Newburyport and Hamilton-Wenham volleyball played about as close a match as possible on Wednesday, but the Clippers wound up falling in five sets 3-2. Newburyport lost the first set 20-25, won the second 26-24 and then got creamed 9-25 in the third before rallying back and winning the fourth 25-23, setting up the decisive fifth set. The two teams tied 15-15 to effectively go to sudden death, but Hamilton-Wenham got the winning points to take the final set 17-15. Sydney Yim led Newburyport with five kills, five blocks and six aces, and Grace Shelley added five kills in the loss.
