Astros advance

It was a wild final 40 minutes for Pinkerton and Manchester Memorial, but a four-goal second half gave the Astros a 4-2 win and secured the school's third trip to the New Hampshire Class L final in the past four years. Mark Mangini (2 goals, assist) and Mike Wanelik (goal, assist) led the way for the Astros, while Kenny Kolbeck and Marc Siragusa also played particularly well.

Pinkerton 3, Londonderry 0

Corey Grant had a goal and an assist as Pinkerton blanked Londonderry, 3-0, in the Class L quarterfinals. Senior Marc Mangini and Omar Khartabil played well. The No. 1 ranked Astros take on No. 4 Manchester Memorial in the semis Tuesday (6 p.m.) at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter.

The Pinkerton boys soccer team couldn't have asked for a better Preliminary Round showing as they racked up six goals and allowed none against Spaulding just three days before their Class L Quarterfinal showdown against rival Londonderry, which defeated Goffstown 2-1 yesterday.

Nice rebound

Four days removed from its first loss of the season (a 2-1 heartbreaker against Concord), the Pinkerton boys soccer team rebounded nicely with a huge 7-0 victory over Dover. Both Mike Wanelik and Mark Mangini had hat tricks, and Chris Doyle stopped the only shot Dover had on net. The Astros improved to 14-1.

The Pinkerton boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, a 2-1 to Concord. Donald Dane scored on a penalty kick, but the Crimson Tide proved to be too much for the Astros (13-1).

Lucky No. 13

Pinkerton Academy cruised to win No. 13 on the season thanks to a trio of second half goals from Corey Grant, Mike Wanelik and Aaron Earle. Chris Doyle had four saves in net and also stopped a penalty kick with six minutes remaining in the game. The shutout is the Astros' fifth of the year.
