BEDFORD, N.H. — Pinkerton and Londonderry played to a 1-1 draw in their regular-season meeting back on Oct. 4, but last night’s Class L state title game was markedly different.

The Lancers cashed in on a pair of first-half goals and used some particularly stingy second-half defense to cruise past the Astros, 2-0, and capture their second state title in school history. The other was in 1981, when the Lancers won the AA title.

BEDFORD, N.H. – It was the ultimate bend but don’t break for Pinkerton.

The Astros muscled their way into Sunday’s Class L final, downing Exeter 2-1, despite being outshot by a wide margin in the first half.

The Who had to wait. Pinkerton field hockey coach Denise Rioux was all set to leave for TD Banknorth Garden, where Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and company were scheduled to perform. Then her team went into overtime. Then another. Then another.

Pinkerton field hockey's Leah Tustin, a defender by trade, scored her first career goal on Senior Day. The Astros beat Bishop Guertin 5-0.

All zeros 

Pinkerton (8-1-3) and Dover (9-3-1) played to a 0-0 tie, in field hockey action. Goalie Gina Rosinski logged a seven-save shutout with the help of solid defensive efforts from Devan Shea, and Erin Garrish. Jordyn Hamilton had five shots on goal but couldn't break the tie.

Fabulous Freshman

The next great Pinkerton field hockey player? That would be freshman Jordyn Hamilton, who scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season in the win over Merrimack. "She's quite a player," said Astros coach Denise Rioux. "She can play four different positions."

Pinkerton freshman Jordyn Hamilton scored two goals in the Astros' 6-0 field hockey rout of Nashua South and, says Pinkerton coach Denise Rioux, there should be plenty more in the future.

Pinkerton rolled past Winnacunnet, 4-0, behind goals from Nicole Curry, Brittany Gentile, Jordyn Hamilton, and Shaelyn Testa. Pinkerton's keeper Julie Medeiros recorded seven saves in the shutout.

Jordyn Hamilton fired a long pass down field that was tipped in by Brittany Gentile to give Pinkerton a 2-1 overtime victory over Manchester Memorial. Tori Elliott scored the Astros’ first goal, on an assist from Shealyn Testa. Gina Rosinski and Julie Medeiros combined in net for the win.
