Making history

The Lawrence boys soccer team picked up what is believed to be the first Merrimack Valley Conference victory in 10 years, a 3-0 triumph over Methuen.

"It's moving in the right direction," third-year coach Don Sheldon said of the program. "Every year we're improving, we're more competitive."

The Lawrence High boys soccer team picked up its fourth win of the season behind Francesco Cuesta's hat trick. Cuesta's three goals were backed up by single scores from Luis Hernandez and Francis Henriquez. Melvin Morales finished with five saves.

McLeod nets hat trick

The Haverhill boys soccer team continued to roll with a 7-0 rout of Lawrence yesterday. Doing the bulk of the damage for the Hillies was Ryan McLeod, who scored three goals against the overmatched Lancers. Luke McCartney nabbed four saves to help Haverhill improve to 10-2.

Too much pressure

Sam Percival scored once and assisted two others in Andover's 4-1 win over Lawrence. The win came despite a great performance by Lawrence keeper Edwin Gutierez, who made 17 saves. "Gutierez covered alot of ground to keep them in the game" said Andover coach Mike Wartman. Wartman cited strong ball control and continued pressure as the key to overcomming Gutierez and the Lancers.

Josh Voto scored three times and Tim Adamchuk added two more as Central Catholic downed Lawrence, 6-0. Dan Caruso scored the other Raiders (2-0-1) goal and he had an assist as well. Andrew Buttersworth added two assists and Connor Slein recorded the shutout with five saves.
