Three unearned

Two errors in the top of the seventh led to three unearned runs for Swampscott, who held on to beat North Reading 5-2 in the Division 2 North semi-finals. The Hornets got a runner on in the bottom of the inning, but did not threaten. Senior Carly Swartz finished her career going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Great day for Gaeta

North Reading junior Cassidy Gaeta went 1 for 2 at the plate in the Hornets 4-1 victory over Hamilton-Wenham in the first round of the Division 2 North tournament, which now gives her 100 hits for her career. Julia Perrone struck out nine over seving innings of work, as the second-seeded Hornets will host No. 7 Swampscott in the quarters Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Doing it all

Julia Perrone went the distance on the mound for North Reading, striking out eight and only allowing one run in the Hornets win over Malden. She also drove in Courtney Luker with a hard single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth inning to help out her cause.

Gaeta goes yard

Cassidy Gaeta got North Reading off to a good start with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning. Gaeta had a team-leading three RBI's, and senior Carly Swartz got hits number 100 and 101 of her career in the Hornets victory over Triton.

Perrone fans 11

A bloop single to right was the only hit North Reading's Julia Perrone allowed in her five-inning shutout of Rockport. More impressively, 11 of the 15 outs she recorded were strikeouts.

Gaeta nets 7 RBIs

 

Cassidy Gaeta had a triple and home run for fivr RBIs in the 14-run second inning and added two more RBIs as North Reading (8-1) crushed Georgetown 18-2 in five innings.

Fabulous freshman

 

Freshman Cassandra Pascucci was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and now has nine RBIs in three games as North Reading trounced Pentucket 12-3. Tara Driver and Taylor Connor both had home runs for the Hornets (3-0).
