Hornets grab share

 

North Reading's girls basketball team defeated Triton 41-31 to earn a share of the Cape Ann League title — its first championship since 1993. Jess Lezon led the way for the Hornets (18-2) with 19 points and 20 rebounds and freshman Casey McLaughlin came off the bench to score seven of North Reading's 13 points in the second half.

North Reading senior Jess Lezon scored her 1,000th point, believed to be the first girl in school history, as the Hornets improved to 16-2 with a 40-27 victory over Lynnfield. She finished with 18 points.

Hornets tie for lead

 

North Reading's girls moved into a first-place tie for first in the Cape Ann League with a 49-41 victory over Pentucket. Jess Lezon scored 17 points and had 20 rebounds to lead the Hornets (14-2) and Carly Swartz had four 3-pointers and 14 points.

Jess Lezon poured in a season-high 31 points and Carly Swartz chipped in with 16 as North Reading's girls improved to 11-1 with a 64-50 victory over Georgetown. Rory Donoghue led Georgetown (6-6) with 14 points.

Lezon wins battle of bigs

Facing down another Division 1-bound center, North Reading's 6-foot-5 center Jess Lezon had a monster game to lead her team past previously undefeated Lowell 63-54 to win the Pope John Tournament. The Yale-bound Hornet had 23 points and 23 rebounds, while Lowell's Lexi Schecter, who is 6-foot-3 and committed to the University of Albany, was held to 10 points and fouled out in the fourth quarter. North Reading also went 15-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, with Carly Swartz hitting the final six in a row to ice the win.
