Second-seeded Andover didn't easily surrender its boys tennis season, dropping a tough 3-2 decision to third-seeded Acton-Boxboro in a grueling 4-hours of tennis.
Varun Penamatsa (7-5, 6-4) and Drew Rooks (6-3, 6-1) each won their matches in straight sets at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. No. 1 Andrew Imrie, who held the lead in both the second and third sets, dropped a heartbreaker in a 0-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 marathon.

Read More »Andover boys tennis head coach Mike Wartman tallied his 500th career victory with a 5-0 win over Lawrence. Wartman, who has been coaching in Andover for 29 years, was not one to brag about the feat after the game, "I don't really keep track of those stats," he said. "It's the losses I remember more." The Warriors have not had any of those this season. The win improves their record to 8-0. "Every year I've coached I've had an outstanding group of players, and I've had the good fortune to be in a community that supports tennis," Wartman added. Following the game, Wartman's wife, the athletic department and players both current and past had a celebration for him.
