Monserrat shines

 

CHELMSFORD — On a day when St. John's Prep rolled to the Division 1 North sectional title, Christian Monserrat stole the spotlight.

 Monserrat not only won his fourth straight sectional title, but he captured his 200th victory and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. he is now four wins shy of the Methuen scghool record of 204 wins set by John Sughrue.

Lopez wins it

 

With Lawrence trailing by two points heading into the final match, lancers' heavyweight Alex Lopez recorded a pin in the third period to provide a 39-35 victory over a tough Chelmsford club. That kept Lawrence (14-7 overall) unbeaten in the Merrimack Valley Conference. Andy Delacruz had a pivotal 11-8 decision at 195.

Drover, Knights shine

 

It was a big day for North Andover wrestling yesterday and a huge one for senior Brad Drover.

The Knights had a big Merrimack Valley Conference win over Chelmsford, 35-27, defeated Dracut 45-31 and routed a strong Exeter West, R.I. team 55-18.

Millington sparkles

 

Reece Millington continued to shine for Haverhill, placing first in the Chelmsford Tournament  in impressive fashion, pinning his way to the 132-pound title. He is now 14-0 on the year with 12 pins.

Too short-handed

 

Haverhill's wrestling team had five pins but it forfeited four weight classes due to injuries and fell to Chelmsford, 51-30. Orlando Rojas began his season following a wrist injury in football with a pin at 1:38 and Luc Chretien improved to 3-0 on the year with a pin at 182.
