HAVERHILL — After squandering the lead in a first-game loss, Haverhill rebounded with three straight wins to defeat visiting Lawrence 3-1 last night.

The Hillies, which won the program's first North Division title last year in a victory over the Lancers, overcame that 32-30 loss in the first game to win the final three by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20.

Controlling play at the net with 15 kills and eight blocks, senior Joel Rodriguez was a force in Lawrence's shutout triumph over Westford Academy. "Joel was a beast at the net," said head coach Tony Hajjar. "He was definitely unstoppable."

Joel Rodriguez had 10 kills and Reibin Hiraldo recorded 30 kills as Lawrence took the opening match of the season with a 3-1 win over Newton South, on game scores of 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 27-25.
