Joel Rodriguez had 10 kills and Reibin Hiraldo recorded 30 kills as Lawrence took the opening match of the season with a 3-1 win over Newton South, on game scores of 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 27-25.

Rodriguez also had six blocks and Anibal Henriquez added 11 service points.
