No. 15 Methuen softball gave up six runs to No. 18 Revere in the top of the eigth inning as the Rangers lost 8-2 in the Division 1 North preliminary round to finish their season at 12-9.

LAWRENCE — A steady drizzle, cool temperatures and a wet field were no problem for Central Catholic seniors Brianna Martin and Meg Donegan yesterday afternoon.

Martin started the Central scoring with a solo home run in the third and was 2 for 3 on the day with two RBIs and two runs scored and Donegan struck out 14 batters while scattering five hits in a 6-1 Raider victory.

Methuen's softball team qualified for the state tournament for the 11th straight year by defeating Andover 8-5. Courtney Bradley (2 for 3) led the way for the Rangers (10-5) with a home run and four RBIs. Nicole Perusse added two hits and two RBIs.

Mulligan helps herself

 

Molly Mulligan hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth to make a long trip to Worcester worthwhile for Methuen in a 3-2 win over Notre Dame. Mulligan went the distance for the Rangers (9-5) and Nicole Perusse played well defensively.

 Methuen snapped a three-game losing streak with an impressive 10-2 victory over Lowell as Carissa Cicolini threw a three-hitter, striking out eight, and helped her own cause with two hits and three RBIs. Rebecca Caterino added three hitrs and two RBIs and Alyssa Cote had three hits and an RBI.

Upset for Rangers

 

Methuen's softball team knocked Chelmsford from the unbeaten ranks with an impressive 4-1 victory. Carissa Cicolini pitched a nifty four-hitter for the Rangers (7-2), striking out six, while Courtney Bradley and Jess Rader both had two-run triples and two hits. Bradley was also outstanding defensively.

For the second straight year, Molly Mulligan pitched a gem for Methuen at Haverhill. Yesterday, in an 8-0 victory, she scattered five singles while striking out 11 and allowing just two walks.She also helped her own cause with two hits and an RBI.
