Haverhill's No. 1-seed boys volleyball team won its first test, whipping Chelmsford in three games. 25-22, 25-14, 25-12 to adnace to the Division 1 North semifinals against the Andover-St. John's Prep winner. Brett Pettis led the Hillies (18-1) with nine kills, 10 digs and four servicre aces.

Chelmsford at Lawrence (MVC Volleyball night)

After splitting the first two games with Chelmsford, Jose Vargas (14 kills, 8 blocks and 10 digs) stepped up with some crucial digs and momentum-changing offense as Lawrence battled for a 3-1 volleyball victory.

Chelmsford 3, Andover 2

Andover fought to the end but suffered a tough fourth game loss before falling to Chelmsford, 15-9, in the decisive final game. Freshman defensive specialist Alek Dean is "playing beyond his years," according to head coach Dave Kuykendall. "I'm very proud of way he's played ... he's been nice and steady." Dean had 6 digs against the Lions and was 13 of 17 passing and 11 of 12 serving.
