Former Pinkerton player Joey Merrill drilled eight 3-pointers and had 26 points but Bradford Christian dropped its opener, 94-83 to Kimball Union.

Phillips Academy saw a thee-goal advantage dwindle to just one in the final moment, but held tough for a 3-2 victory over Kimball Union. Payton Jancsy and Colin Nugent each scored one goal and assisted on another for the Big Blue.

Former Austin Prep star and North Andover native George Sennott helped lead his Kimball Union squad 4-3 over Brooks in the N.E. Prep Small Semifinals.

Michael Lata fired a shot on goal that was saved, but Eddie Ellis was there to grab the rebound and pound it into the net in overtime to give Phillips Academy a 4-3 victory over Kimball Union. It was just Kimball's second loss of the season.

Suki Smith scored 14 points and had eight rebounds as Brooks rallied from a 13-point deficit to hand Kimball Union its second loss of the season, 48-45. Kimball Union's Gabby Diaz, of Lawrence, had four 3-ponters (16 points).

A pair of second-half 3-pointers from North Andover's Mark Hanson set up by Ray Barry (24 points) broke things open for Phillips in a rare victory over Kimball Union, 74-56. Haverhill's Tom Palleschi was another of four Big Blue players in double figures with 15 points.

Phillips came up flat after a two-hour trip to the Lakes Region, dropping a 5-1 decision to a tough Kimball Union squad. Redmond Colson had the Big Blue's lone goal.

Brooks allowed a goal just 23 seconds into regulation, and was never able to recover, falling to Kimball Union 2-1 in the New England Prep Class B semifinals.

"We were very agressive and played most of the game in their zone," said coach Dusty Richard. "But we just couldn't finish."

Phillips Academy's boys basketball team, after losing its first four games, won its fourth in the last five yesterday, 76-65 over Kimball Unon. The Big Blue, who had four players in double figures, zoomed to a  45-26 halftime lead and never looked back.

The Governor's Academy (2-5) lost to Kimball Union Academy on Wednesday, 3-2 in overtime. Christine Goglia and Sara Alornado scored the goals for the Govs, and Polly Merck dished out an assist.
