Stan McKeen, the Peabody High boys' coach who just notched his 100th career victory, attended Lynn English at a time when the school didn't have soccer.

Nor was he too crazy about the sport when his wife Sharon suggested they take first son Timmy to start soccer at an early age.

"I wasn't keen about it because I wasn't familiar with soccer," he said. "But I got to coach him | that was 26 years ago | and I still coach Peabody Youth Soccer. "My daughter Tracey and I coach a U16 girls travel team. We've also done intramural and instructional teams. It wasn't something I was familiar with, but soon thereafter I got an ENF license and it's been a reward and enjoyment for me ever since."

McKeen, 59, who has spent 41 years at General Electric in Lynn, is 100-84-16 in 12 seasons at Peabody High since succeeding John Petradelis after two years as the junior varsity coach.

He was hardly quoted after his 100th triumph.

"I'm not big on personal records. I wouldn't have known about it except the kids checked it out last season and found out I needed one more going into our tournament final. Nobody even mentioned it before our opener (vs. Beverly)," McKeen said. The McKeens had another PHS soccer standout in son Mark, who is now in his fourth year of medical school in Worcester
