WINDSOR, Conn. — Loomis Chaffee ran the ball right at Phillips Academy yesterday and came away with a season-opening 29-18 victory.
"We're small and they took advantage of it," said Phillips Academy coach Leon Modeste.
The Big Blue, behind the passing of Tom Shannon, started strong, however, and took a 12-8 halftime lead on scoring strikes of 8 yards to Ben Green and 26 yards to Brendan Rankowitz.
But Loomis played ball control in the second half, outscoring Phillips 21-6 to grab the victory.
Shannon finished the game with 18 completions for 272 yards with Rankowitz leading in receptions with six for 107 yards. Defensively, Tom Szymanski and Joe Kruy were credited with eight tackles, two more than North Andover's Sam Lessard.
