Because he doesn't play in a local league such as the Northeastern Conference or the Cape Ann League, Pingree's Carlos O'Donnell is probably the best unseen quarterback on the North Shore. A senior from Salem, O'Donnell is 92 for 158 passing for 1,372 yards and eight touchdowns for the Highalnders.

One thing is for sure: O'Donnell is the best kicker in the area. He's racked up six field goals this season, including a school-record 42-yarder.

"He's kept improving for three years and it helps that his skill position players (receivers) have been around for a while, too. They've grown up together," said Pingree coach Chris Powers. "We're talking about kids like Derek Pratt (29 receptions, 548 yards), Dillon Vassalo (19 catches, 238 yards) and Will Taft (13 catches, 215).

"The othe thing that should be mentioned is that our offensive line, which is really undersized, has allowed just four sacks all season."

Powers thinks O'Donnell could make it next year with the right Division 3 college program.

"He has the skills, but I don't know if his size will hold him back in the eyes of some college coaches," said Powers. "I do know that O'Donnell could kick for somebody."
