Londonderry racks up 400-plus yards on the ground in blowout

LONDONDERRY, N.H. | With eye black smeared all over his face and his jersey covered with dirt, Londonderry's Chris Stringfellow smiled big.

How could he not bask in what had just transpired. The 265-pound senior center anchored an offensive line that produced 413 rushing yards on 54 carries last night. About 2,000 fans watched the Lancers pummel Manchester West 37-3 under the lights at Lancer Park and improve to 1-1 on the young season.

"Without this offensive line, we would not go," said junior halfback Alex Theodosi, who had a game-high 136 yards on the ground. "They never get recognized or get their names in the paper. But I give them all the credit."

Stringfellow, guards Alex Deyeso and Brett Moore, tackles Kevin Handy and Justin McLaughlin and tight end Casey Ryan spent the evening opening holes for 10 different rushers, including four who gained 60 yards or more. Seniors Andrew Rogers (11-95, 3 TDs), Luke Trotochaud (8-81) and Ryan Lambert (10-62) took advantage of wide open spaces the line created all evening.

Trotochaud's 57-yard run set up Londonderry's second touchdown of the first quarter. Theodosi's 53-yard burst up the sideline set up senior kicker Brian Cantella's 25-yard field goal that put the Lancers up 17-0 midway through the second quarter.

Londonderry's defense was as stingy as its offense was prolific, holding West to 42 rushing yards. Senior cornerback Mark Colantonio also had an interception for the Lancers.

"We go full out, full speed," said Stringfellow, a nose guard on defense. "Last year, the line wasn't that big. I wasn't that big. But this year..."

This year, the Lancers have shown they won't be pushed around easily. They rushed for 270 yards last week against Manchester Central, but a late TD and two-point conversion doomed them in a 22-21 loss to the Little Green. Coach Tom Sawyer saw an angry team during the past few practices.

"We just plain gave the game away last week," Sawyer said. "But we talked about it, and all week, we worked hard." Londonderry will host Salem Friday at 7 p.m.
