LONDONDERRY - It was a first half of football that Windham would like to forget. But you'd be foolish to think that these Jaguars are going to quit.

Trailing 35-9 early in the third quarter, Windham made it a 35-23 game with eight seconds left in the frame when Tommy Emrick plunged in a 2-yard touchdown. What more, the Jaguars got the ball back and were driving deep into Londonderry territory again.

A once raucous Lancers sideline went quiet real quick.

But Windham couldn't convert any more points, turning the ball over on downs and, behind back Jeff Wiedenfeld, Londonderry ran out the clock to earn the 35-23 win early Saturday afternoon.

"The second half we said we were going to play with a little bit of reckless abandon," said Windham coach Bill Raycraft. "We had nothing to lose. So we came out and we ran a little hurry up, and defensively we got some stops by taking more chances."

It was Jake Holland who got the game-clinching interception for Londonderry (4-1).

A senior, Holland did it all for the Lancers.

His day started by blocking a punt, scooping it up and returning it 30 yards for the first score of the game. After Windham (2-3) scored on a Cody Potter 23-yard TD pass to Cody Stevens to make it a 14-9 game, Holland returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards to the house. He had the one interception, but it easily could have been three in total.

"Jake had an outstanding game," said Londonderry coach Jimmy Lauzon. "It starts in practice. He takes practice seriously, special teams especially, and he did a great job today."

Londonderry took a 28-9 lead into the break after quarterback Evan Cormier threw a dime to Cole Keegan in the back of the endzone for a 23-yard strike just a minute before half. Windham got the ball to start the second half, but the Lancers forced a stop and scored two plays later when Wiedenfeld broke a 16-yard run.

The win was an important one for the Lancers after a disappointing loss to archrival Pinkerton last Friday.

"Last week we just came out slow," said Holland. "We knew we had to just come out today and play our game... It felt great to win."

Windham was led both offensively and defensively by the senior Emrick. He finished the day with 94 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown, had a sack and was in on a handful of tackles for loss.

"Tommy will do whatever we ask him," said Raycraft. "He'll run it up the middle and he'll run it outside. And then defensively, he has such a high football IQ that we trust him to take some risks out there."

Potter completed 18 of his 31 passes for 221 yards and two total touchdowns. His favorite target was Cody Stevens, who hauled in eight passes for 93 yards and a score.

Up next for the Jaguars is a tough matchup at Salem Friday at 7 p.m.
