Greater Lawrence fell to Shawsheen yesterday in a hard fought 2-1 loss in the opening round of the Division 3 playoffs. The Reggies scored the game's first goal as Christian Cano fed Matt Jasinski with a nice through pass, allowing Jasinski to gain separation on a partial breakaway. Jasinski went top shelf and put the ball past the goaltender's outstretched hands.
Shawsheen evened the score late in the first half, and it remained 1-1 until later in the second half.
"I thought we really carried play and controlled the ball in the first half. In the second half, we wanted to concentrate more on defense and we did pretty much," explained coach Phil Youngclaus. "But with about two minutes left on the clock, they probably put together five or six corner chances and finally capitalized on one."
Jazmin Patrocino finished with 19 saves in one of his finest games of the season. Youngclaus was happy with the success of his team this year.
"You know, we made the tournament and had just a great season, so it's tough to be disappointed," he said.
