The Newburyport Clippers (7-2-3) edged out the Georgetown Royals (7-6-0) at home yesterday, 1-0. With the win, the Clippers are now one win away from reaching the state tourney. The game-winner was scored with 1:26 left in the second half by Cassandra Davis. Callie Hefferan notched the assist, and Haley Morris made nine saves for Port. The Clippers out-shot the Royals 15-11, but Georgetown had eight penalty corners to Newburyport's six.
"It was a great game for us. It's really getting very exciting around here now," said Clipper coach Lauren Hefferan. "Najah Ali, Taylor Damon, Callie Hefferan, and Cassandra Davis all had excellent games, and Haley Morris was great in goal. Our passing was really nice today; they were all working together very well."
