Freshman Andrew Sokol tallied five goals and two assists for the Clippers in their opener. Kirk Dillon added two goals and an assist. Dan Durant and Ryan Cutter scored one goal each. Sam Melanson and Kevin Ryan had assists.
"It was pretty evenly matched, and Andrew was the difference," Newburyport coach Ed Gaudiano said. "It was a typical first game | a little sloppy with penalties. But we'll improve."
Freshman Dean Citaldo made nine saves for Newburyport. Michael Karol played the fourth quarter in goal. Ryan and Justin Burl played well defensively according to Gaudiano.
