Masconomet's baseball team won 19 games last season and made it all the way to the Division 2 North final. It looks like Masco is serious about having that type of season again.

The Chieftains opened the season in spectacular fashion yesterday, ripping 17 hits in a 17-3 non-league win over Everett.

In what proved to be a great sign for Masco, senior captain and second baseman Cam Greeley led off the game with a home run. Greeley finished 3 for 6 with four runs and an RBI. Chris Splinter went 3 for 4 with three runs, three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Dan Duval finished 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI. Kyle Shepard, a senior captain and rightfielder, was 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs. Pat Matvichuk added two hits and knocked in two runs. Masco scored five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to make it a blowout.

Jamie Riordan recorded the win on the mound. He went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits.

"Right from the start, our senior captains have been setting the path for the other kids. Hitting is contagious, as we saw today. Our baserunning was terrific and we played errorless ball, too" said Masco coach Joe Marchesi.
