It may have taken over four hours to complete, but the Rockport Vikings couldn't think of a better way to spend a Tuesday night, as they defeated Triton, 6-5 in 11 innings. The victory sent the Vikings over .500 with a 6-5 record.

In the bottom of the 11th, senior Matt Hendy doubled to right, moved to third on a passed ball and scored the winning run on a walk-off single by senior Cory Emerson (three hits).

"It was a huge win," said Rockport head coach John Parisi. "We had lost three games in a row but we were playing well. We couldn't put it all together but tonight we had good defense and quality pitching. We didn't hit the cover off of the ball but we managed 10 walks so we showed great patience at the plate."

Cory Emerson started on the mound and struck out nine in five innings. Senior Derek Osmond relieved him and struck out eight over his six innings of work while also picking up the win.

Osmond and junior Dave Campbell had two hits while senior Eric Juncker added a hit.

Down 5-3 going into the home half of the sixth, sophomore Mike Emerson walked, Campbell reached on an error then Osmond drove them both home with a two-run single.

The victory was especially sweet for the Vikings since Triton had hung an ugly 25-1 loss on them last season.
