The 32nd annual John Ottaviani Haverhill Invitational, one of the top boys outdoor meets in New England, will get underway with field events at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Sapienza Track. The running events will begin at 11 a.m.

Twenty-four teams are competing, including defending champion Reading and last year's runner-up, Central Catholic. Central had won the title in 2005 and 2006.

Two local champs return in pole vaulter Brenden Bice of Londonderry, who was also second in the 110 hurdles last year, and Central Catholic's Mike Bakhtiari, who prevailed in a dramatic 800 duel.

Other top athletes who will be on hand include distance standouts Chris Brown of Chelmsford, Mike Masse of North Andover and St. John's Prep and Dan Roark of Dracut, Andover's All-State champion sprinter Chris McConnell, Central shot putter Chris Farren, Methuen hurdler Josue Henriquez, Timberlane hurdler Erik Gustafson and Andover long jumper Santi Costello.

Local teams competing include Haverhill, Central Catholic, Andover, Methuen, Londonderry, Timberlane, Pinkerton, Salem and Lawrence.
