MEDFORD — The girls from Australia had the height, but Whittier had the speed and agressiveness yesterday at the Shooting Touch Shootout at Tufts University.

As a result, the Wildcats ran past Canberra Academy, 66-45, for their third win in four games.

"They were big and physical, bigger than us," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley. "We had a slow start, but then we got them running."

Leading 13-9 after the first quarter, Whittier moved out to a 31-19 lead at halftime and then gradually pulled away.

Sparking the Wildcats off the bench was freshman Xciano Flores, who scored 12 points and played excellent defense, while Haley Allbee also played well in a reserve role.

Andrea terranova and Samnell Vonleh also scored 12 points for the Wildcats and Kayla Riley added 11. Michaela Martin chipped in with 10 points, giving Whittier five players in double figures.

Canberra Academy is in the first stage of a swing through several states, heading to New York next and then making stops in South carolina and Florida before returning home.
