What a difference a month has made for the Greater Lawrence boys basketball team.

Back on Jan. 10, the Reggies were defeated by Greater Lowell 59-49, dropping to 7-2 and in a hole in the Commonwealth Conference large division.

Yesterday, exactly a month later, the Reggies returned the favor, ripping the Gryphons 55-41 for their ninth straight win, improving to 16-2 overall. If Chelsea can beat Gr. Lowell this week,  the Reggies can claim a three-way tie for the league title.

The Estrella brothers, Alexis and Frankely, led the way with 19 and 16 points and Oscar Reynoso added 13 points largely courtesy of  three 3-pointers. Reynoso was strong on the boards and he and Alexis Estrella hounded Greater Lawrence standout Jayson Colon, limiting him to two points.

Ahead 25-21 at halftime, the Reggies pulled ahead in the final two quarters behind Frankely Estrella, who had 13 of his points after the intermission.

Reflecting on the difference between this game and the first matchup with Greater Lowell, Reggies' coach Dan Habib said: "We took care of the basketball and we did a much better job of boxing out and playing defense.

"The kids are really playing well right now. I told them during the summer that they had a chance to have a special season and so far it has been special."

Greater Lawrence has two games left in the regular season, Friday at Lynn Tech and next Tuesday at Methuen.
