Thanks to two goals from captain Christian Cowles, the Eagles (10-5-3) scored four times in the opening period, then buried three more in the final frame to win going away. Senior wing Steve DiCarlo of Danvers also scored twice for St. John's (both times on the power play), with Dan Haugh contributing a goal and two assists. Dan Lawton and defenseman Nick Riccio also tallied for the winners.
"The guys answered the call in the third period, after Austin Prep had cut the lead to 4-2," said Prep head coach Kristian Hanson. "They really moved the puck well and capitalized on their chances in that (last) period."
St. John's Prep got a fine 23-save performance from senior goalkeeper Kyle Pettoruto. It was Pettoruto who came up big on a first period breakaway, stopping the shot when his team held only a 1-0 lead. It transitioned up ice the other way, leading to the first of Cowles' two goals.
