Peabody is accustomed to winning the Greater Boston League title but now the girls can add an Northeastern Conference Large title as well.
Playing in the conference for the first year, the Tanners (12-2 in NEC, 13-3 overall) used their rebounding advantage to take a 48-45 victory on the road. Peabody outrebounded Lynn English by 20, 53-33.
Two of the senior captains, Kristen Federico and Lindsey Consoles, grabbed 19 and 14 rebounds, respectively. Federico and Consoles both had double-doubles as well. Federico scored 13 points and Consoles added 10. Alyssa Manoogian netted eight points for the Tanners.
"I couldn't be happier for the girls," Peabody coach Jane Heil said. "They got the job done tonight and a little bit of the pressure's off us now heading down the stretch."
