It remains a goal, not their top priority, but a major one of the Peabody High girls basketball team each season. Qualify for the state tournament as early as possible. The Tanners, behind balanced scoring from a dozen different players, did just that last night, routing host Saugus, 74-48, to punch their tournament ticket for the sixth straight season.

Captains Lindsey Consoles and Kristen Federico each had 10 points to pace Peabody (10-1). Federico, a center, added eight rebounds and three assists, while Federico, a power forward, contributed five rebounds and an assist.

"We reached one of our goals again, which is always good," said Peabody head coach Jane Heil. "To be honest, we expect to do this. That's not being cocky; it's just something we believe we'll do each year. It's nice to get this hurdle out of the way."

Captain Michelle Grifoni added nine points for Peabody, as did shooting guard Janelle Rodriguez (who also had 7 rebounds) and captain Tawny Palmieri (who also had 6 assists and 3 steals). Junior Katie Henrick had a fine all-around game off the bench, while senior Jacklyn Egitto (8 points) did likewise. "Our passing is getting better and better," said Heil. "It's really nice to see."
