LOWELL — By the time June rolls around, you hope all the nightmares are behind you on the baseball diamond.

Last night, North Andover absorbed one, complete with the cold sweats, watching their season come to an end in the Division 2 North semis, 3-0, to fifth-seeded Beverly.

Three Knight hits, five Knight errors, one long Knight night.

"They made all the plays, and we didn't," said North Andover coach Todd Dulin. "I'm not sure why. I field bad for (starting pitcher Brandon Walsh). I thought he pitched great. And he deserved better. We just didn't go and get one for him."

Walsh, on three days rest, fought for every pitch in his 6.2 innings of work, relying mainly on a high-riding fastball.

Striking out 10 and walking four in a five-hitter, Walsh battled out of trouble when he had to, despite falling to 6-3 on the year.

Only one of the runs was earned, but that was plenty with Beverly's Cam Rogers snapping off curve ball after curve ball to confuse Knight after Knight.

"I thought we'd make the adjustments, but we just never did," said Dulin, whose top-seeded club finishes at 18-5.

Dan Rivet and Tyler Leavitt singled, while Rick O'Connor doubbled, but that was it offensively.

Rogers got plenty of help from his shortstop, Anthony DiOrio, who flashed some serious leather with five assists and a putout.

The defeat marked the end of the career for the UMass-bound Walsh, a legitimate, four-year, two-sport legend for the Knights.

He was a huge part of a pair of sectional baseball champs and led the football team to a 30-15 mark over four years.

"He's the best athlete I've ever seen come through here," said Dulin. "I love kids who compete, and he is truly one of the best I have ever seen at that."
