NORTH ANDOVER — Phillips Academy's girls basketball team has not enjoyed as much success as it had hoped this year, but the Big Blue might be turning things around at the right time.
Phillips won its third game in its last four yesterday with a convincing 55-37 victory over area rival Brooks to improve to 5-8 on the year.
The Big Blue's size was just too much for Brooks to overcome as 6-foot Kaylie Williams and 5-11 Maggie Brown both scored 12 points and 6-4 Alex Kiss-Rusk chipped in with seven points and helped control the boards on both ends of the court, grabbing 11 rebounds, one less than Williams.
"Their size gave us a lot of trouble," said Brooks coach Amy Kenneally. "We were missing two players, which didn't help."
Said Phillips assistant Lewis Robinson: "We had some injuries and issues earlier in the season but we're playing on all cylinders now."
Missing for Brooks for the fourth straight game was junior guard Thalia Garcia, who has a leg injury but should be back soon, and 6-4 sophomore Alex Norgaisse, who has yet to play since recovering from ACL surgery.
Junior foreward Meaghan Flanagan of North Andover led Brooks (8-6), which trailed 31-16 at halftime and couldn't recover, with 13 points.
